145 - THE RACE


 

The Grand Union Canal Race is Britain's longest "ultra" run  covering the 145 mile distance from Birmingham's Gas Street to  London's Little Venice within a time limit of 145 hours. En route  the runners are allowed to stop for a maximum of forty minutes  at a time.

The race was originally created by Dick Kearn in 1993. Dick was  the first runner to complete the race and fifteen years later he is  now its chief organiser and guiding spirit.
